Unbeaten 1957 football squad ready to huddle again
PRESCOTT- In 1957 they were the best football team in the region. In 2017, 60 years later, they are going to get together for one more scrimmage. They could use some help locating all the team members.
"We are attempting to organize a reunion of the 1st South Grenville District High School (SGDHS) football team," explains Whit Prophet, one of the original players in 1957. "That year we were unbeaten and un-scored upon," he says.
Prophet, along with fellow teammates Cal Polite and John Ross, are targeting Friday, July 21 as the potential date for the gathering of the 1956 and 1957 SGDHS football alumni. Their intention is a casual 'meet and greet' followed by some golf before returning to the clubhouse for a meal and some reminiscing of the glory days of the late 50s.
To date, the group has located 20 of the former players. Four more are deceased, leaving only five members unaccounted for. Prophet and his group are still looking for the whereabouts of Sandy Sayeau, Bill Dillon, Dave Chester, Bill Patterson and Coach Frank Kieczor.
They are hoping the public might offer some insight to where they might contact the remaining players.
"Any assistance in locating these guys would be appreciated," Prophet says.
Anyone with information is welcome to contact Whit at 613-342-2408 (email@example.com) or John Ross at 613-692-4438 (firstname.lastname@example.org).
