Think Rink kicks off at Windmill Brewery Saturday

JOHNSTOWN - "Prescott is at the core of our community. We all grew up on that rink, we know how important it is for the kids and families and want to help keep them close to for their hockey, figure skating and of course the family skates too."

Those are the words of Windmill Brewery owner Sean Lucey.

Windmill Brewery and The Town of Prescott are hosting an event in support of Prescott's new arena. Think Rink is intended to bring the community together with a family‐friendly kick‐off fundraiser for the new Prescott arena. The day will include live music, a BBQ, speeches by local dignitaries, hockey and figure skating groups, an auction and more.

"We've been involved in several fundraisers and know that organizers can always use a bit of seed‐money to get their activities under‐way. By bringing a few businesses together we just want to let everyone know we're on‐side and want to do what we can help get the process going," says Lucey, confirming that a portion of the beer and bbq sales that day will be given in support. "As well, a representative from Prescott will be here to collect direct donations. There will be a tax receipt issued for donations over $10," Lucey concludes.

Ken Durand Jr., of Durand and Associates, who have taken the role of stage sponsor for the event, is one of the many in the local business community who sees the potential of the endeavor.

"When approached to participate, we had no hesitation. The rink is a huge and important part of our community and we all want to see it come back as soon as possible," said Durand.

Other businesses that have gotten on‐board early in support of the Think Rink concept include Canadian Tire, O'Reilly's Independent Grocer, Newport BBQ & Bakery, Tim Horton's, The Prescott Journal and Coast 107.5 FM.

There is still plenty of room for more.

"We certainly welcome anyone who would like to partner into this cause," states Brewery Social Coordinator George Tierney. "Part of the event includes an auction. We have some big tickets Ottawa Sens items right now...but we would certainly make good use anything that local business can provide to the auction."

Windmill Brewery is located at 5 Newport Drive, Johnstown. Think Rink is a family friendly - all are welcome. This is a rain or shine event.
