Major Midgets off to promising start
The South Grenville Major Midgets are off to a promising start after a tie and win in their first two games in the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League.
The Rangers started the year at home with a 1-1 tie against Brockville in a very close checking game. Sam Heisel had the lone goal for the Rangers, with assists to Ashton Grima and Jack Doris. Tyler Watkins had a strong game in goal for the Rangers.
On Sunday in Maxville, the Rangers came out with a strong forecheck and downed the NGS Braves by a score of 8-1. John Coligan and Riley Hildebrandt led the way with two goals each with singles to Brody Ranger, Ben Ross, Jack Coville and Doris. Assists went to Dillon and Ranger with two each and singles to Heisel, Coligan and Mac Render. NGS could only get one past Jacques Tremblay who had a strong game in goal for the Rangers.
The Rangers will host Leeds on Tuesday night in Prescott and then are off to Stoney Creek for the 31st Annual Ace Bailey Major Midget Tournament.
The Rangers coaching staff of Dean Bologna, Greg Williams, Ray Throop and Ty Bologna are pleased with their start but know there is lots of room for improvement with this group of players. Darren Ross and Darrin Coville will act as trainers and Paul Anderson as the Manager for this year's Major Midgets.
