Bold theft in Cardinal

CARDINAL - After more than 20 years in business, Gary Tracey, owner of GT Automotive in Cardinal, experienced an unfortunate first at his popular village automotive repair and restoration shop. On Friday, October 12 between 3:00 a.m. - 4:30 a.m., two trailers and a Miller Welder/Generator were stolen from the parking lot across from the business. Some of the equipment stolen belonged to Tracey himself, and the other items involved in the theft belonged to a friend of the family.

"In the 20-something years I've been in business in this town, not one item has been touched or stolen from the property. We're really disappointed that something like this has happened," said Tracey of the incident.

Neighbours close to the scene witnessed a white GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Blazer first remove one trailer from the property shortly after 3:00 a.m., only to return for the remaining trailer closer to 4:00 a.m. The trailers stolen from the property are a red 20' car hauler trailer along with a black 16' car hauler trailer.

"Whoever did it has a lot of nerve, that's for sure. To steal one trailer and then come back a second time for the other, that's quite a thing," said Tracey.

Tracey is currently working with insurance and the OPP in the hopes of locating the missing items or recuperating the damages, but is not hopeful for a positive resolution.

"Unfortunately I think we will end up just taking a loss here, unless the items are found," said Tracey.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the OPP immediately.
