Annual parade ready to light up the season on Friday night

PRESCOTT - The 64th Annual Light Up the Night Christmas Parade in Prescott will take place on Friday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. starting at South Grenville District High School.

Presented by the Prescott Fire Department, this year the parade will celebrate Canada 150, as well as Prescott Fire Department history. The event will honour members of the past as the official Parade Ambassadors. The Prescott Fire Department has been operational in some capacity within the community since 1834.

"We thought it would be very appropriate this year with celebrating Canada's history, to also celebrate Prescott Fire Department history and to honour our retired members as Parade Ambassadors and Parade Marshalls. They will be leading the parade and riding on various floats," said Prescott Firefighter Chris Veltkamp.

Those interested in entering floats in the parade are asked to be at SGDHS no later than 6:15 p.m. There is no registration or cost to enter a float.

The popular Governor General Foot Guard along with other bands will participate in the festivities. Cogeco Cable MC'ing the event and Sandra Lawn and David Dargie will be this year's Judges.

Tim Horton's Prescott will be selling Christmas Parade cookies starting November 13 in support of

the event.

"This parade happens every year thanks to the amazing community organizations and business partnerships in Prescott. There are so many amazing sponsors of this event that make it a success year after year," said Veltkkamp.

For more information on the event, contact the Prescott Fire Department at 613-925-4777.
