$60,000 OTF Grant Gives Cardinal Library a Lift

CARDINAL - On Saturday, September 24, the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library (ECPL) welcomed members of the public to its Cardinal Branch for an Open House and plaque presentation ceremony to mark the interior updates and changes to the community space. Local MPP Steve Clark was on hand to congratulate the ECPL Library Board and staff. Thanks to a capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation earlier this year, people of all abilities will now be able to enjoy the services and resources in the Cardinal library's new welcoming space.

"I'm pleased to see the results of this $60,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for upgrades at the Cardinal Branch of the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library to improve accessibility for the public and help staff provide even better service," said Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark."In rural and small-town Ontario, in particular, library branches are invaluable hubs that connect the public to information and the world around them. With this investment, the Cardinal Branch can now help even more people of all ages access its wide range of programs and services."

The interior updates for the public include new bookshelves at more accessible heights, new computer tables that allows for an increase in public workstations, and more leisure seating space. The library's service desk was also replaced to increase ergonomics for the staff and allow for an accessible counter. The Cardinal library is one of two branches of the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library and provides residents of the community with physical and electronic resources as well as a range of programs and services, including free museum passes.

"We are very grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this grant and the positive changes we have been able to achieve as a result," said Emily Farrell, CEO of the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library. "The library space is much more open, welcoming and accessible as a result and we believe there will be a positive impact on the users and the community for years to come."

The Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library is committed to providing individuals with access to resources and information to meet the cultural, informational and recreational needs of the community.
